Why Your Next Lab Needs a Designer Who Speaks M&E

When we talk to clients in the Life Sciences or MedTech sectors, we know that we are looking at a completely bespoke design and installation project usually extending across a series of state of the art laboratory, warehousing and modern office spaces.
When we led projects for Certara and Calibre Scientific, the challenge was to create a future-proof environment capable of supporting rapid international growth, while maintaining the rigorous standards required for scientific operations and global distribution.
If you’re looking at a new 28,000 sq ft shell at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, or even a smaller 1,500 sq ft boutique lab, here is how we approach the design
Start with the Science
Design: Once briefed by you, we develop a fully integrated layout combining laboratory, distribution and office environments tailored to what you need in the building you're located in.
Technical: Install specialist HVAC, gas lines and antistatic flooring required for high precision life science diagnostics and calibration processes.
Build: Deliver large-scale fit out of the space, ensuring that heavy-duty warehousing requirements are fully integrated with a high-spec front-of-house environment.
Project Management: Manage a complex programme, coordinating a network of specialist subcontractors to ensure full compliance with health, safety and scientific regulatory standards.
Speaking M&E and legalities
M&E coordination is pivotal when building labs. We manage a network of specialist partners who understand ISO standards and Biosafety Levels. We translate your clinical requirements into a technical brief that our contractors can execute with utmost precision as well as coordinating the legal, planning and regulatory matters crucial to any build.
Design to future-proof
Our design is focussed around ensuring scalability for strategic growth. We focus on modularity, using things like overhead service booms and mobile workstations.
The Culture
Finally, the people, when designing labs we must meet all regulations and compliance that will naturally standardise the space. In the communal areas and the office space, we create high end, people focussed breakout spaces and meeting rooms that reflect the ethos of the business whilst complimenting the feel of the building.
Our advice to any prospective client
You don't have to be an expert in building regulations or mechanical engineering to get your science off the ground.
If you are looking for a partner who understands that your facility is a clinical tool, a regulatory requirement and a recruitment asset all rolled into one, get in touch.
