Clerkenwell Design Week 2026: The Shaping of Modern Workspace Design

Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 has once again showcased the very best of commercial interior design. From vibrant showcases and interactive displays to organic, functional furniture, this year’s festival offered a definitive glimpse into the three key trends currently dominating the industry.
Maturity of Resi-morphic Design

The traditional resi-commercial trend has officially grown up. The modern workplace is no longer about superficially throwing a sofa into a corner to make an office look like a living room. Instead, it is about capturing the deep sensory elements of domestic comfort to fundamentally improve how people feel and work.

A standout example of this evolution was Sixteen3’s Camino Modular Sofa System. Rather than relying on rigid rows of desks, the Camino system acts as a foundational layout tool. It uses a clever system of curved, modular blocks to build fluid, organic seating landscapes. By shaping the overall flow of the room, this large scale system beautifully bridges the gap between touchdown working, collaborative breakout spaces and formal meeting areas.

Return of Maximalism

Despite an underwhelming announcement for Pantone’s 2026 Colour of the Year, designers at CDW took matters into their own hands. We saw a bold resurgence of vibrant, rich colours and striking patterns, proving that a workplace can maintain its elegance and professional maturity even with a bold visual language.

By mixing rich textures with characterful, statement furniture pieces, designers are creating environments that feel both visually exciting and deeply grounded, offering an inspiring and tactile space.

Authenticity & Bio-Materials

Amidst all the industry talk about the necessity of technology, the most meaningful conversations we had this year were centered around human authenticity. There is a collective desire to ensure spaces feel real, crafted and tactile. Muted tones and raw, natural materials stood out as a grounding element throughout the festival.

Sustainability took a giant leap forward from corporate buzzwords into genuine circular innovation. Brands like Impact Acoustic and Lionne Van Deursen made a massive statement this year, showcasing an uncompromising commitment to sustainable, circular design and the brilliant utilisation of bio-materials.

CDW 2026 proved that the future of design isn't about flashing gimmicks or rigid structures. It's about bold self expression, fluid layouts and a deep, authentic commitment to sustainability and human comfort.
